California Dental Insurance, Avoid the bad candy options.
Many kids eat candy throughout the year and not just at Halloween. Though given Halloween can promote more candy eating it is not the only time children and adults may choose to eat candy. Although it not advise to eat large amounts of sugary treat during any part of the year if you are going to eat sweets choosing wiser options can be kinder to your dental health.
Stay away from chewy or sticky sweets such as gummy candies, taffy, and even dried fruit. These types of candies can be a serious source of tooth decay, because they tend to get stuck in the crevices between teeth, making it nearly impossible for saliva to wash away.
Sour candies are also not a wise choice. Sour candies are highly acidic and can break down tooth enamel quickly. Even so when eating sour candies avoid brushing your teeth for at least thirty minutes, otherwise you will be brushing the acid onto more of your tooth surfaces and increasing the risk of enamel erosion. Also as many people may know to much sugary snacks can cause tooth decay. Snacks with high amounts of sugar include candy corn, cookies, and cake.
